Each year, almost $450 billion worth of textiles are thrown away around the world and only 1% of textile waste is recycled into new clothing. The textile industry is one of the biggest polluters on the planet, generating one fifth of the worlds water pollution and using 20,000 different chemicals.
In the name of meeting consumer demand for cheap disposable clothing and changing tastes, the fashion industry has created a tremendous amount of waste. In Italy, only 12% of clothing items are recycled when potentially 95% could potentially be reused.
Urban Pep was started in 2016 to transform waste into a resource and to make people appreciate the strength and potential of preowned fabrics. We started a movement that empowers our customers to embrace the future of circular fashion. Our collection consists of 90% entirely recycled items with the ultimate goal of having no new clothing items.
To date we have refreshed more than 10,000 items of clothing, operating workshops in Italy and South East Asia. Through the tireless effort of our tailors we have restored value and given new life to gently used clothing and fabrics through recycling and upcycling.
Fashion for free people is the essence of our brand as our team of curators have put together a truly unique collection of bright and on-trend pieces.
Urban Pep, because any good fashion trend deserves a second chance.
